Minimally Invasive Correction of 2nd Toe Deformity – January 2023
Patient Background:
A 28-year-old patient presented to our outpatient clinic with a congenital deformity of the 2nd toe that had gradually worsened. She reported difficulty walking and pressure in her shoes.
Preoperative Status:
Image: The preoperative image shows the outward curvature of the 2nd toe.
Postoperative Condition:
Images (2 Months After Surgery):
Mild postoperative swelling on the 2nd toe is still present.
Images (5 Months After Surgery):
The swelling has entirely resolved, and the toe remains in the correct, straight position.
There is no risk of the deformity returning.
Postoperative X-Ray:
Cause of Deformity: The wedge shape of the middle phalanx of the 2nd toe.
Solution: A small wedge was removed from the middle phalanx through a skin puncture. This restored the regular shape of the bone, which healed in a straight position.
X-Rays (5 Months After Surgery): The toe is completely healed and stable.
Conclusion:
This procedure provided the patient with significant relief from symptoms and a notable improvement in the aesthetic and functional condition of the foot.
